Aesthetic Surgery Training
The Aesthetic Plastic Surgery training is significantly different across Europe, reflecting the diversity of the several training programs defined by each country of the European continent.
Although Aesthetic Surgery training is included in almost all Plastic Surgery Residency Programs, specific guidelines for the duration or the number of aesthetic surgical and non-surgical procedures are not available for every country. The number of trainees enrolled in Plastic Surgery Residency Programs per year is also considerably different in each nation. Fellowships in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery are available in less than a half of the European countries.
Historically the plastic surgeon was seen as the authority on aesthetic procedures and the go-to-person to consult, however competition on aesthetic procedures (surgical and non-surgical) is growing year by year, either performed by other specialties or even non-doctors. To avoid this trend and improve patient safety, it becomes mandatory to improve the Aesthetic Surgery training and practice of our young colleagues residents and fellows within the specialty of Plastic Surgery.
One of the key goals of E(A)SAPS is to improve education in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery by providing courses, congresses, webinars, fellowships and scientific recommendations to support the thriving of Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine by Plastic Surgeons to Plastic Surgeons.
